The Yakubu Dogara-led House of Representatives, on Sunday, said that out of the 360 Peugeot cars ordered for Lawmakers, only 200 have been delivered.

The House Spokesman, Abdulrazak Namdas, exclusively told Daily Trust, that the rest of the vehicles would be supplied before the end the year.

The supply of the vehicles came at a time when the Governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, had taken the job of empowering the unemployed graduates of the State, with branded wheelbarrows.

According to a Media Aide of the Governor, the gesture is to make the youths self-reliant and self-employed, instead of going around looking for non-existent white collar jobs.

However, a Facebook user, Moses Ochonu, who posted photographs of the wheelbarrows with the inscription, ‘Gov. Ortom For You’, took a swipe at the manner of empowerment, by calling it an embarrassment.

Although, the Governor has personally denied the wheelbarrows, even though his name was inscribed on them.

Meanwhile, Post-Nigeria could recall that the  initial contract of awarding the vehicles was N10 million for each, it has now been reviewed to N17m per unit, totaling N6.1 billion.

Speaking, Namdas said: “Over 200 have been supplied out of 360, and we are still getting more. Every member will get their car by the end of this year. The issue is that the payment for the vehicle is being done in installments.

“The House and the company, PAN, have reached an agreement to this arrangement of paying and supplying in installments.

“Of course not all the members can get their cars at the same time, and we have explained to them (Lawmakers) why this cannot be possible”, he said.

Namdas added that. the major cog in the wheel of the supply was paucity of funds, saying: “You know that we have not started the implementation of the 2017 budget fully. You will appreciate the fact that payment for these cars will come from the budget.”
