Following Thursday’s tanker fire on the Otedola bridge of the Lagos – Ibadan expressway where nine people died and 54 vehicles got burnt, emergency officials this morning continued evacuation of the wreckages of the charred vehicles.
This led to the temporary closure of the Ibadan -bound section of the expressway while there was heavy traffic gridlock on the other section.
Daily Trust reports that the road was closed temporarily to enable free movement of heavy duty equipment being used to clear the debris.
Many pedestrians were stranded as for two hours, there was no vehicle moving out of Lagos through the expressway.
The other end of Berger along Ogunnusi road Ojodu- Berger was in a near shutdown as the traffic snarls extended up to Agididigbi early in the morning.
However, it was a rainy day for the motorcyclists popularly called Okada riders as many pedestrians who were heading to their respective offices had to resort to taking bike to get to their destinations on time.
The expressway has now been opened when our correspondent was filing this report even as the traffic jam remains on both the inbound and outbound section of the expressway.
