Early life and career

Hilda Effiong Bassey was born on 20 September 1996, and she is from the Nsit Ubium Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. She graduated with a degree in sociology from Madonna University, located in Okija, Rivers State. She was the host of Dine on a Budget, a television show that airs on Pop Central TV.

Hilda embarked on a culinary education program, drawing inspiration from her mother, a culinary chef.

Guinness World Record attempt

In March 2023, Hilda announced she would be attempting the record for the longest cooking marathon. The record was previously held by Lata Tondon whose cooking marathon lasted for 87 hours, and 45 minutes in 2019.

On 11 May 2023, she started her record attempt titled “Cook-a-thon”. She broke the record on 15 May.

On Monday, May 15, 2023, at exactly 7:45 am, Hilda broke the record for the longest cooking marathon by any individual hitting 87 hours 50 minutes above the previous record holder in 2019. On Tuesday, May 16, 2023, a Guinness World Records spokesperson released an official statement on its website saying: “We are aware of the record attempt and are looking forward to receiving the evidence for our Records Management Team to review before we can confirm the record is official.”

To set a new record for the longest cooking marathon, Hilda was originally set to cook for 96hrs but later extended her goal to a 100 hours cooking marathon.

High-profile Nigerians who visited Hilda include Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu; Lead Pastor of Harvester International, Bolaji Idowu; award-winning Nigerian singer, Tiwa Savage, Tim Godfrey, Ice Prince.

Governor Sanwo Olu’s remark

“I showed up to support Chef Hilda Baci, in her quest to break the Guinness World Record @GWR for the longest time spent cooking by an individual,” Mr Sanwo-Olu tweeted.

“Her dedication, passion for cooking as well as her desire to put our rich culture on the map by not only exhibiting our food but also the resilience, determination, energy and team spirit that has come to be known as the spirit of Lagos and indeed Nigeria is truly remarkable.”

The Vice President of Nigeria, Professor Yemi Osinbajo also called to cheer Hilda up during the cook-a-thon. Hilda received a huge support fan base from Nigerians who trooped to the venue of the cooking competition, while others kept trending her name on Social Media.

A video showing faced right at the peak of her cook-a-thon, where Hilda was seen french kissing a man, this portrays the unknown man as her lover of some sort but there has not been any confirmation whatsoever, some other sources also claimed it must have been her ex trying to ride on her new gotten fame.

Hilda’s relationship status is not publicly known but judging from that clip, we have reasons to believe she does not keep a private relationship and if she was seeing anybody recently, we would have had a glimpse of it.

Hilda Baci Provocative Dress Sense

Hilda Baci is not only known for her cooking skills but she is also recognized for her way of dressing, mostly in a provocative manner. She is also obsessed with keeping fit as she is said to have spent the last two years preparing for the record-breaking journey by visiting the gym daily. In a news recently she had to debunk and give genuine reasons as to why she dresses attractively.

The Akwa Ibom-born chef while addressing the media in Lagos on Thursday defended her dress -sense, saying that one can look sexy and still be a game changer.

She said,  “I don’t have to be dressed like a nun to make it in life. One can be sexy and still amazing, beautiful, and smart. I shouldn’t be taken back because of my looks or dressing as this does not determine my values or endowment.”

The young chap pleaded with society to allow young women to look and become themselves without condemnation, adding that “I’ve volunteered myself to say I slay and I have something up in the brain.”

Baci, who still awaits her official validation by the Guinness Book of Records, expressed optimism about her confirmation, stressing that her record has been validated, while she only looks forward to her certificate.

“We complied with all the guidelines and never left any stone unturned. We didn’t fall short in any area and this is quite evident and clear. The cook-a-thon is a deliberate attempt and not child’s play. Our preparations were robust, hence I don’t expect to be disappointed”

Revealing her next line of action, the world record breaker said she looked forward to propagating Nigerian recipes globally, expanding her restaurant, and enlarging the narratives of Nigerian Culinary space.
