Japan Sets To Approve COVID-19 Drug On Thursday

Japan has followed suit with other countries in believing the efficacy of the antiviral drug, Remdesivir for the treatment of COVID-19 patients.

According to reports, Remdesivir will be approved by the Japan government on Thursday, May 8 as a remedy for combating the coronavirus pandemic in the country.

Meanwhile, in the United States, the same drug has been approved also as the treatment of the global pandemic while research continues.

Japan’s acceptance of the anti-viral drug would make the country second to confirm Remdesivir as a remedy in the treatment of cases of COVID-19, Naija News understands.

The development was revealed a few moments ago to newsmen by a top Japan government official, Yoshihide Suga, Naija News learnt.

Suga said, “If there is no problem we hope to swiftly approve the drug today,”

Meanwhile, the Federal Government of Nigeria has explained that thorough tests have to be carried out to ascertain the efficacy of local herbs before it can be used in the treatment of COVID-19.

Speaking during the daily briefing of the Presidential Task Force on COVID-19 in the Federal Capital Territory a few moments ago, the Minister of Health, Dr Osagie Ehanire, noted that the Nigerian Institute for Pharmaceutical Research and Development would have to confirm the efficacy of local herbs before it can be used as a remedy on COVID-19 patients.
