Who is Jeff Cook?

Jeffrey Alan Cook was a famous American professional country music artist. Cook was popularly recognized for being a member of the band Alabama, in which he played guitar, fiddle, and other musical instruments.

In 1972, Cook co-founded the band Wildcountry, together with his cousins Randy Owen and Teddy Gentry. The band then changed its name to Alabama in 1977. Cook contributed lead and also backing vocals, lead guitar, keyboard, and fiddle to the band’s productions. Since the band ended active production and performances in 2004, he formed the bands, Cook & Glenn and the Allstar Goodtime Band, with which he performed.

Together with his performance work, he founded Cook Sound Studios, Inc., in his native Fort Payne. He also established the radio station WQRX-AM, which he then sold, in adjacent Valley Head, Alabama. Cook is known for his culinary endeavors, having operated a restaurant and marketed his own sauce. He then endorsed the 2008 presidential candidacy of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee and made appearances with the candidate in Alabama. In 2019, he was elected into the Musicians Hall of Fame and Museum.

Death

In 2022, he toured with Alabam for their 50th Anniversary tour. He revealed that he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease four years earlier, on April 11, 2017. He quit touring regularly with Alabama in 2018. On November 8, 2022, Cook died from complications of the illness at the age of 73 in Destin, Florida.
