Chastity and fidelity are not two words you usually associate with Hollywood, but thanks to actor Neal McDonough we see there are still some virtuous folks out there.
While McDonough is known for some great recent roles on “Arrow” and “Justified” it is his firing from ABC’s “Scoundrels” that shocked him. Known for his stance on “no kissing” he was fired for refusing to do sex scenes with co-star Virginia Madsen in 2010 and replaced with actor David James Elliot three days into shooting.
ABC insists it was a simple casting change, but McDonough believes it was because of his moral stance. Married to model Ruve´ Robertson for 15-plus years, the actor refuses to kiss another woman. “I won’t kiss any other woman because these lips are meant for one woman,” McDonough told closerweekly.com in an interview.
The online magazine asked how he avoided kissing any of his co-stars on the steamy TV Soap, “Desperate Housewives” when he was a part of the cast from 2008 to 2009.
“When (creator) Mark Cherry signed me, I said, ‘I’m sure you know, but I won’t kiss anybody.’” McDonough replied. “He was like, ‘But this is ‘Desperate Housewives’!” McDonough went on to explain how Cherry determined to “write better” so he could still work with him.
Ruve´and Neal have five children together, and he credits her and God to his success, despite the setback to his career due to his firing.
“…it was a horrible situation for me. After that, I couldn’t get a job because everyone thought I was a religious zealot. I am very religious. I put God and family first and me second.” Neal said in a recent interview.
Setbacks aside, his persistence and professionalism are paying off. He currently has History Channel’s new series “Project Blue Book” as well as several other projects in the works now.
We are glad to see that standing up for marriage and staying true to God’s best is not hampering McDonough’s career.
