This year, nominees were announced on May 15, which will be followed by a glittering awards ceremony on Sunday, June 25, 2017 at 8PM ET televised live from the Microsoft Theater in LA and airing on BET. Hosting this year’s ceremony, for the first time ever, is SNL funny lady Leslie Jones. Leading the pack this year is Beyonce with seven nominations, including ‘Best Female R&B/Pop Artist,’ ‘Best Collaboration’ with Kendrick Lamar for “Freedom,” ‘Video of the Year,’ and ‘Album of the Year’ for Lemonade. Bruno Mars follows with five nominations. Chance the Rapper, Solange (Beyonce’s sister) and Migos have four nods apiece. Performers on the big night include Bruno Mars, Migos, Future, Trey Songz, Tamar Braxton, DJ Khaled, Chris Brown, Lil Wayne, New Edition, Big Sean, Post Malone, Jessie Reyez, Roman Gianarthur, Mary J. Blige, A$AP Rocky, and Maxwell. New Edition will be honored the Lifetime Achievement Award and Chance the Rapper will receive the Humanitarian Award at this year’s ceremony. • With an average 7 million viewers, the BET Awards remain the highest rated awards shows on cable television. • The most nominated artist at the BET Awards is Beyoncé with 61 nominations (53 solo and 8 with Destiny’s Child). She also leads in wins with a total of 24. Chris Brown follows with 37 nominations and 14 wins. • Hip hop artists OutKast took home the first-ever BET award trophy during the first BET Awards ceremony on June 19, 2001. OutKast also won Video of the Year that night for “Ms Jackson”. • Following the passing of Michael Jackson, the BET Awards scrambled to revamp the ceremony.
