Who is Lil Baby?

Lil Baby fully known as Dominique Armani Jones is a famous American rapper. He became popular in 2017 after the launch of his mixtape Perfect Timing. Jones’s debut studio album, Harder Than Ever (2018) topped the Billboard Hot 100 top 10 single ”Yes Indeed” (alongside Drake). He then launched 2 more mixtapes: Drip Harder (alongside Gunna) in 2018, containing the track, ”Drip Too Hard”, which attained No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100. The single was later certified Diamond by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA); as well as Street Gossip, which attained No. 2 on the US Billboard 200.

2015-2018: Career Beginnings and Harder Than Ever

Lil Baby was a regular presence in the studio of Atlanta-based Quality Control Records as a drug dealer at the age of 17 until label founder Kevin ”Coach K” Lee inspired him to become a rapper. This was because Coach K felt that Nany had ”the swag…the lingo, [and] respect around the city”. Fellow rappers Young Thug and Gunna were his mentors in developing his style. Baby finally launched his first mixtape, Perfect Timing, in April 2017 with appearances from Lil Yachty and Young Thug. After three months, he launched another mixtape, Harder Than Hard, followed by his third mixtape in six months, on October, 2 The Hard Way, a collaboration with friend and fellow Atlanta rapper Marlo.

His fourth mixtape, Too Hard, was launched in December, led by his hit track ”Freestyle” and accompanying music video. The single was certified gold by the RIAA in February 2020. With Baby’s career gaining speed, he launched his debut studio album, Harder Than Ever, in May 2018. It then debuted at No. 3 on the US Billboard 200.
